Space Show Opens at
Valley Center Museum
"Flying saucers to flying machines", a new exhibition spotlighting eight Valley Center residents who gained fame and notoriety in space, opens June 1 at the Valley Center History Museum and will continue through November. Among those featured are aviation pioneers, aerospace legends, and a controversial UFO figure.
Trophies, photos, mementos and personal memorabilia will be on display for the following:
James H. (Dutch) Kindelberger, president, chairman, and chief executive officer of North American Aviation whose accomplishments included design of the XI5 rocket ship.
John Leland (Lee) Atwood who designed the Apollo command module and received the Presidential Citation.

John Clifford Garrett who developed the life support system for American astronauts in projects Mercury, Apollo, Gemini and Sky lab.
Lewis A. (Bert) Binegar, an experimental flight engineer who comprised the flight crew for the first Air Force One presidential aircraft.
Donald H. Gordon, who flew the first powered flight west of the Mississippi in 1909.
Mary Pearson, a pioneer woman pilot.
Kirby Grant, an actor and pilot who flew his own plane as the star of the "Sky King" TV series.

George Adamsky, the controversial father of UFOlogy, the study of unidentified flying objects, who claimed to have had contact with aliens in flying saucers.

The Valley Center History Museum at 29200 Cole Grade Road is
open Tuesday through Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
